Voluntary Manslaughter

Voluntary Manslaughter is where the defendant killed with the necessary intention to be charged with murder, but, because of one of three special defences set out in the Homicide Act 1957 and more laterly the Coroners and Justice Act 2009, that charge of murder is reduced to manslaughter. The three special defences are:

  • Diminished Responisibility
  • Loss of Control
  • Suicide Pact
