Criminal Process

The criminal process describes the procedure and events that happen from the commission of a crime through to sentencing after a conviction in court. However, in this unit we are only concerned with the activities of the police. This unit examines the police's powers to stop and search on the street, the power of arrest and then the procedure at the police station including detention, interview and search. It will also examine the rights of the individual and the need for full investigation of criminal offences.
